The Power of Improvisation

The time of the pandemic is marked by a constantly shifting reality and the need to cope with adversity. Who better to deal with the situation than the organisers of the Krakow Jazz Autumn? The celebrations of improvised music are usually spread over several weeks, but circumstances dictate that this year’s 15th edition will be condensed to between 23 and 25 October. The stage of Alchemia welcomes the crème de la crème of the Polish scene. On the first day we will hear bass guitarist Rafał Mazur, celebrating twenty years as an improviser with his programme The Great Tone Has No Sound, as well as the sax, double-bass and percussion trio OCHO. The second day features trumpeter Artur Majewski solo, followed by guitarist Michał Dymny with his trio. The festival closes with Majewski’s improvisation workshops, while the sextet Wandering the Sound(Scape) Ensemble performs Rafał Mazur’s Citimprovisation – Kraków.

The festival is preceded by concerts from the cycle Polish Impro@rt, with Alchemia welcoming the Mazur/Dymny Duo (4 October), the Owczarek/Wnuk Duo (11 October) and the IPT Wójciński/Bańdur/Gucik trio (18 October). All events will be streamed online! (Bartosz Suchecki, ”Karnet”)
