Fiesta!
Latin America isn’t just about Caribbean beaches, Amazonian rainforests, endless Patagonian pampas and hot cities teeming with life – it’s also about fascinating cinematography! We’ll find out more during film screenings at Pod Baranami Cinema held as part of the Latin American Culture Festival (12-19 October). They include Santa and Andres; banned in Cuba, the film tells the story of the unusual friendship between a gay author and a peasant girl during the days of Fidel Castro. The moving Guatemalan documentary 500 Years describes the centuries-long struggle of native Mayans for justice. The fates of two men who survived a shoot-out on the border between Venezuela and Colombia are presented by the multi-award winning El Amparo. We will also see two productions based on novels by the Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa: The Feast of the Goat and Captain Pantoja and the Special Services. The programme also includes screenings of short films from Chile.
