Kraków’s cool autumnal days will soon be filled by dazzling, spirited culture of Latin America. The Latin American Culture Festival in Kraków (12-19 October) kicks off on the 525th anniversary of the “discovery of America”.
Cracovian celebrations of the New World start at Piwnica pod Baranami with a musical journey to Latin America: there will be Cuban boleros, Mexican rancheros, Chilean songs, Argentinian blues and songs by Marek Grechuta, translated into Spanish and set to flamenco rhythms. During the Consulate Night, diplomatic missions from Latin America present the natural and cultural wealth of Argentina, Colombia, Cuba and Chile with exhibitions, concerts, lectures and film screenings. Pod Baranami Cinema and the Paradox Cinema present Santa and Andres, banned in Cuba, as well as Latin American animations and short films from Chile. A blend of film and literature comes with screen adaptations of novels by Mario Vargas Llosa, combined with lectures.
The festival also features culinary workshops at Taco Mexicano inspired by Frida Kahlo and a photography exhibition dedicated to the artist, Frida Kahlo. Long Live Life! at the ZPAF Gallery. (bf)
