Let’s Drink To It!
It was spring 1999, and at the same time as Poland was joining NATO the forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization started air strikes in the Yugoslavian conflict, aiming to end the ethnic war in Kosovo. The artistic collaboration between Serbian composer and Polish vocalist with inclinations towards soul seemed virtually unreal. And yet it turned out to be a real hit! The album Kayah & Bregović became one of the greatest successes of Polish phonography: it was awarded many prestigious prizes (including three Fryderyk statuettes, four Superjedynka awards and a Wiktor), and it has sold close to a million copies to date.
Even after all these years, the hits remain as current as ever and they continue to captivate the hearts of new generations. It was shown by fans during Kayah’s guest appearance during Goran’s concert with this Wedding and Funeral Band, which turned out to be a great success. Any former personal animosities were put aside, and the temperamental pair decided to join forces again: Kayah and Goran Bregović are starting a new joint tour after seventeen years.
