Piercing Music

He’s been around on the scene for so long, it seems impossible there is anything new and surprising to learn about him. And yet! Sting wanted to be a musician from his earliest years. He started by playing jazz with local bands, and jazz remains his passion until today. Gordon Sumner – the artist’s real name – frequently wore a black and yellow striped sweater, making him look like a wasp and earning him the moniker Sting. And did you know that Every Breath You Take (from Synchronicity, the last studio album he recorded with the Police) is the most frequently requested song on radio stations around the globe? Sting wrote the song in half an hour after waking up in the middle of the night with the title in his head.

Sting has visited Poland several time, although he is yet to perform in Kraków (he was due to appear alongside Paul Simon in March 2015, but the concert was cancelled due to illness). On 12 October, he comes to Tauron Arena Kraków as part of his tour promoting his latest album 57th & 9th, on which he makes a – perhaps surprising – return to pop-rock sounds. He will be accompanied by his regular guitarist Dominic Miller, Josh Freese on percussion and Rufus Miller on guitar, with special guests Joe Sumner (Sting’s son) and the accordionist Percy Cardona – a regular performer with the Last Bandoleros.
