  • Saturday, May 27, 2017 - Sunday, May 28, 2017

Come join us in the Kazimierz District of Kraków for an intergenerational mix of tradition and the contemporary, all in the rhythm of house music.

As in years past, we will open wide the doors of the seven synagogues of Kazimierz – something unique to this single place in the world. We will reveal all kinds of stories and histories, things that are not immediately apparent, and some that require individual reflections. There will be discontinuity and many stories will remain unfinished, but they will move you and leave you with a renewed spirit. We prepared different kind of program for each synagogue - exhibitions, workshops, multimedia performances and a DJ marathon all await.

The event begins on the evening of May 27th. We will start at 10pm with a festive Havdalah in the JCC and then enjoy ourselves till the early hours of the next morning (10:30pm-2am).

PROGRAMME

Tempel Synagogue, Miodowa 24
Groove, funk and house. Music connects not only generations… DJ show
Ellyott – she’s a punk woman with huge music experience. At the beginning of the 90s, she co-created a pioneering British band in the Riot Grrrl style, Sister George. She then played in the equally renowned band, Nighnurse. She now lives in Israel and plays hot house melange with middle eastern scores.
Tomasz Jurecki – he’s a DJ, multiinstrumentalist, retronaut. 1/4 of the project, MLDVA, 1/3 Estropical, 1/3 Trio Polis, 1/5 Easy Cheesy. He will play Israeli groove connection, soul, funk and big bit. The walls of Tempel will shake.

Kupa Synagogue, Miodowa 27
Encounters
Histories and testimonies of the members of the Krakow Jewish Community. Familiar and generational. Ancestors will meet with descendants in very special stories. There will be brothers and sisters, grandkids and grandparents…. Brought together by the “here and now”. We will experience stories that will come alive. Not only in the storytellers, but also in ourselves.

Remuh Synagogue, Szeroka 40
Captured Moments
Proud, joyous, youthful, experiences of innocence, love, tradition and modernity. There are moments in our lives when one photo can capture the memory of entire generations. And when we look closer, we can see even more… Everything is right here. A very special photo exhibition that was published in the JCC Krakow calendar.

Popper Synagogue, Szeroka 16
The One and Only Tree
Do you have your own genealogical tree? If not, come join us in Popper to create your own genealogical tree. Workshop conducted by Anna Lewińska and Marzena Dudziuk – Koluch.

Old Synagogue, Szeroka 24
“And I still see their faces…”
We still see their faces and hear their voices. They were, are and will be. In the memory of grandkids, great grandkids. Exhibition of the photographs of the Polish Jews created by the Shalom Foundation of Gołda Tencer-Szurmiej – a multimedia show.

High Synagogue, Józefa 38
Feel your own story…
We invite you for a multimedia show. This time there will be high abstractionist variations on the generations. You can feel them in your own way and interpret it in your own way. Paths on which the author Wiktor Podgórski leads us, will allow us to trace individual journeys. This is not only to see, but to feel, because the history of the generations is about what is in us, what we feel, rather than simply what we see….

Isaac Synagogue, Kupa 18
Generations of Kraków
It was almost like yesterday when they walked with their families through the same streets which we will walk visiting the seven synagogues. Who knows, maybe some of them prayed in the Isaac synagogue before the war… Or owned a small shop in the New Square. A photo exhibition showing the everyday lives of eight families from prewar Kraków.
