1956
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising of 1956, the Consulate of Hungary and Pod Baranami Cinema host the film review Where Righteous Anger Explodes. Hungarian Cinema Against Stalinism (3 November – 15 December). The event opens with the screening of Budakeszi Boys (dir. Pál Erdőss). The protagonists are young boys growing up during the brutal Stalinist era. The programme also features acclaimed Hungarian films including Károly Makk’s Love nominated for the Palm d’Or in Cannes in 1971, and Father (1966) by István Szabó, one of the most important Hungarian filmmakers, awarded the Special Jury Prize at Locarno.
