They first performed in Poland in 1991 for literally just room and board. They arrived in a borrowed car which they drove all the way from the Netherlands, and the mini-tour took them to Gryfino, Bydgoszcz and Białystok. They played tiny venues to just a few dozen listeners, and their name still meant nothing to even the most dedicated underground music fans. Since then, Green Day have sold over 75 million records, and their albums, including Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004), are classics in the rock canon. The expansive Forever Now is closer to an art rock suite from the 1970s than a punk extreme of the era, while the closing Ordinary World comes as a huge surprise with its atmospheric country ballad style.
