Just like April weather can (and often does!) change in the blink of an eye, so culture in Kraków intertwines events from perhaps all fields of the arts. The framework is set by the spectacular finale of the Misteria Paschalia Festival at the start of the month and the Netia Off Camera film festival at the end. So what can we expect in between? There will be jazz from Grammy Award winners at the Young and Old, or Jazz in Kraków festival, there will be acclaimed vocalists Lizz Wright and Stacey Kent, there will be legendary rockers Metallica performing for several thousand fans at Tauron Arena Kraków… And there will also be the spectacular performance of Carl Orff’s immortal masterpiece at the Kraków Opera, while fans of music avant-garde can look forward to the anniversary celebrations of the International Kraków Composer Festival. Dozens of Cracovian galleries join the KRAKERS weekend, while fashionistas can enjoy a fabulous fashion show at Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego Square. Finally, there is World Book and Copyright Day celebrated in myriad ways throughout Kraków – UNESCO City of Literature.
So even if the capricious April weather can be (and often is!) irksome, the cultural events held this month should satisfy even the most discerning audiences. There’s plenty to choose from, there’s optimism – doesn’t it feel warmer already? (Grzegorz Słącz, Editor-In-Chief)
