Concerto is a show of skills – of a soloist or a group of soloists. The word concerto derives from the Latin verb concertare, to contend or to compete – it indicates the competition between the solo voice/voices and the orchestral tutti. This rivalry results in the perfect harmony – a thing possible only in music.
The Capella Cracoviensis musicians playing at the Kraków Philharmonic Hall transfer us to the baroque times when concerto was born, when it developed and matured. But everything is already there: the show of skills, the rivalry and, most importantly, the harmony.
