Summertime Ideas

Stuck in the city for the summer? August abounds with concerts held as part of the Musical Outdoors project organised by the Krakow Festival Office! On Fridays, the stream Summertime Gambols at the square by ICE Kraków features intelligent, airy pop of Rycerzyki (7 August), tuneful synthpop from the female duo Enchanted Hunters (14 August), electronic minimalism from the Whalehead Coda duo (21 August), and Muzyka Końca Lata described as “the most romantic band in the Mińsk district” (28 August). The Summertime Relaxation stream, held on Saturdays at the same venue, opens with the Piotr Budniak Essential Group jazz ensemble (1 August). The following Saturdays come courtesy of the “Afroaleatoric” duo Malediwy (8 August), the Marimbazzi Duo combining classical music with jazz (22 August) and the Warsaw-based Niechęć blending jazz with alternative rock (29 August). Under an Open Sky

The cycle of Musical Outdoors, organised by the Krakow Festival Office and launched in mid-July, continues in August with its classical stream Summertime Standards resounding at the Kraków Picnic. The violin duo Jakub Żurek & Jakub Michalak performs at Planty Mistrzejowickie on 2 August and Manus string quartet joins us at the Maciek and Dorota Park on 9 August. On 16 August, the Kościuszko Park resounds with the Cracow Harp Quintet, presenting compositions by masters of French Impressionism. The following week (23 August), the accordion duo of Maciej Zimka and Wiesław Ochwat, famous for their bold interpretations of classical music, appear at Dębnicki Park. The final concert will be held at Bednarski Park on 30 August, with the Insieme Choir freely reaching for vocal traditions of all centuries. (Wojciech Zając, “Karnet”)
