White-and-Red Cinema

On 11 November, Agrafka and Kika cinemas host the annual Polish Film Day. The programme includes the hottest titles of recent months, prize-winning productions and films acclaimed by critics and audiences. We will see Poland’s candidate for next year’s Academy Award: Jan Komasa’s moving, tragicomic Corpus Christi starring the highly promising Bartosz Bielenia in the leading role. The story of a young man who decides to impersonate a priest upon his release from a youth detention centre has shown to be universal: it has been hailed at festivals in Venice and Toronto, and an American remake is currently in development. We will also see Maciej Pieprzyca’s multi-award winning Icarus. The Legend of Mietek Kosz – a biopic of the acclaimed blind jazzman. The review also includes films exploring Poland’s struggle for independence, including Dariusz Gajewski’s Legions and Michał Rosa’s Piłsudski. The films will be shown with English subtitles!
