Karol Szymanowski’s life included elements typical of that of a Polish intellectual living at the turn of the 20th century: growing up at a country estate, a solid education first at home and then at several academies and universities, extensive travel around Europe including obligatory trips to Italy, and many meetings with famous personalities of the era. But what sets him apart from thousands of others is his extraordinary musical talent, making Szymanowski – alongside Frederic Chopin – one of the most important Polish composers of all time. His music resounds during the festival Szymanowski/Poland/World (26-30 March) organised by the Kraków Philharmonic to commemorate its patron. The stage welcomes the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio under the baton of Agnieszka Duczmal, the Orchestra of the National Theatre in Prague led by Jaroslav Kyzlink, and Olga Pasiecznik and Adam Strug presenting songs of the Kurpie region in their traditional form and as interpreted by Szymanowski.
