Ready to die for your rights? Ask the organisers of the 16th International Film Festival WATCH DOCS. Human Rights in Film, visiting Kraków between 18 and 21 October. Watch Docs touches on some of the most important issues concerning violations of human rights, and the struggle for justice and equality. The festival opens with the dazzling, disturbing documentary on the growing spectre of militarism Czech Journal: Teaching War directed by Adéla Komrzý. This year’s festival also explores issues faced by people with disabilities (Unrest, I Know You Are There and Still Tomorrow) and the struggle for human rights (Risk). Some films focus on the political and social aspects of environmental issues (Białowieża Forest. Here We Are, Guardians of the Earth), and different facets of activism (Cambodian Spring, Syria’s Disappeared. The Case Against Assad and Truth Detectives).
The screenings are accompanied by lectures and discussion panels led by experts and social activists. Screenings are held at Kino Paradox. Entry to all events is free (registration required). (Barbara Zając, Karnet magazine )
