The former garrison shooting range (Strzelnica) in Wola Justowska, a wooden building dating back to the second half of the 19th century, was founded as a training site for Austrian soldiers stationed in Kraków at the time; a few years later it was used by members of the “Strzelec” Shooting Association and future combatants in Commander Józef Piłsudski’s legion. Today, the beautifully renovated building holds the collection of the Museum of Photography in Kraków. From 15 September, it hosts the permanent exhibition Portrait while the museum’s main building at Józefitów Street undergoes renovations. We will also see a brand-new exhibition Acquisitions of the Museum of Photography 2018: Wojciech Plewiński showcasing some of the less-well-known works by the Cracovian photographer who captured the beauty of young models as well as the striking faces of elderly residents of care homes. The acquisitions also include Plewiński’s 1950s photos from the cycle Western Lands. The outdoor exhibition Plewiński. On the Stage accompanies the premiere of an album of the same title. If you head out for an autumnal walk in the Wolski Forest, make sure you visit the new museum site – entry is free during the opening weekend (15 and 16 September)!
