The Sinfonietta Cracovia orchestra, since its foundation supported by Krzysztof Penderecki who is still the Chairman of its Artistic and Programme Board, celebrates the Maestro’s 85th birthday as it knows best: with a concert, of course! His compositions resound during the opening of the latest artistic season on 2 September, held as part of the Emanations Festival and the Stars with Sinfonietta cycle. The orchestra under the baton of Jurek Dybał performs all three Sinfoniettas by Penderecki, with Daniel Ottensamer, soloist at the Vienna Philharmonic, performing during Sinfonietta No. 2 for clarinet and string orchestra. Sinfonietta Cracovia is also preparing a commemorative album for the composer’s birthday, featuring the same programme and released by Sony Music Polska. The record will feature Daniel Ottensamer and the Russian violinist Ilya Gringolts. It wouldn’t be a proper birthday without presents! (Barbara Skowrońska)
