In March, the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra, its artistic director Charles Olivieri-Munroe and the pianist Szymon Nehring performed at the Meistersingerhalle in Nuremberg, Kraków’s twin city, bringing works by Szymanowski, Lutosławski, Chopin and Penderecki. The Nuremberg orchestra is now returning the visit, with the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg performing in Kraków on 25 May. Led by Marcus Bosch, the ensemble comes to the Philharmonic Hall to present music by German composers: Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s orchestral sketch Stille und Umkehr (commissioned by the city of Nuremberg as part of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the city’s famous son Albrecht Dürer) and Concerto for trumpet, as well as Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.
