Spring is slow to take hold this year, so perhaps it’s time to head somewhere warmer? The review Cinema Italia Oggi at Pod Baranami Cinema presents the latest cinematography straight from sunny Italy. We will see eight productions which have captivated audiences and/or critics and won awards at festivals at home and abroad.
Films include Francesca Comencini’s comedy-drama Amori che non sanno stare al mondo, Paolo Taviani’s Second World War drama Una questione private, Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza’s Sicilian Ghost Story awarded at the Sundance Film Festival, and Made in Italy by the director and musician Luciano Ligabue featuring Stefano Accorsi (best known for his role in the TV drama The Young Pope) and Kasia Smutniak, Polish actress highly popular in Italy.
The cinema also presents the charming story of generation-defying friendship Tutto quello che voui directed by Francesco Bruni, Francesca Archibugi’s lighthearted take on a father-son relationship Gli sdraiati, and Egidio Termine’s story of hidden family secrets Il figlio sospeso. A highlight of the review will be the pre-premiere screening of the thriller The Girl in the Fog. The directorial debut of the author Donato Carrisi is the screen adaptation of his bestselling novel of the same title.
