The songs of Sephardi Jews are fascinating not only for their unique style. They convey the history of their creators and performers. They also carry the fates of the Jews who, though expelled, preserved their language and culture.
During the concert, the songs will be performed in Ladino language. The language typical for the musical traditions of Sephardi Jews, the descendants of Jews that have been cast out from Spain and Portugal in XVI century. The songs are influenced by Spanish, Arabic, Greek and Balkan music. Sometimes exuberant and expressive, sometimes moody and melancholic, the songs bring to mind southern vibes mixed with oriental style.
