Music Without Divisions

“Give me this fucking Polish fiddler, he’s got the sound! The one from The Tonight Show, from that old cracker Johnny Carson. Too bad he’s white. Sounding like that I wouldn’t care if he were be green and farted red,” said of him Miles Davis. After hearing Urbaniak play on TV, he invited him to record a few tracks on his album Tutu. Michał Urbaniak, resident of New York since 1973, soon became known as one of the finest jazz violinists in the world. He has recorded over sixty albums and worked with iconic jazz artists such as Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Wayne Shorter.

But he doesn’t describe himself as a jazzman, saying, “God created music, and humans divided it into categories.” He comes to Kijów.Centrum on 8 September to present the latest album of his international project Urbanator, with the artist describing the music as “rhythm, heart and powerful energy”.
