The concert by the Scharoun Ensemble, the chamber orchestra of the Berlin Philharmonic, opens the 5th Emanations Festival on 2 July. The event, organised by the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre of Music, is based at the organisation’s headquarters in Lusławice. The festival tours Małopolska until 3 September with a total of 40 concerts, visiting castles in Nowy Wiśnicz and Dębno, manor houses in Gorlice and Szymbark and the Atma villa in Zakopane.

The festival will also visit Kraków and its vicinity. Music for flute and cello emanates from Tyniec: on 22 July, the Benedictine Abbey hosts the outstanding instrumentalists Łukasz Długosz and Marcin Zdunik. Music for flute will also resound on 30 July at the Royal Castle in Niepołomice – the flutist Adrianna Mętel will be accompanied by Amelia Tokarska on harp.
On 11 August, the Church of Corpus Christi resounds with chamber music by the outstanding Ensemble Opus from Korea accompanied by the Korean Young Artists group. The concert, featuring Rossini’s Flute Quartet No. 3 in B major and Grieg’s Holberg Suite, is the culmination of workshops at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice. On 26 August, the Jewish Cultural Centre hosts teenage artists Hanna Pozorska, winner of the 5th Groblicz Family Violin Competition, and Krzysztof Michalski, soloist and cello concertmaster with the Lusławice Talent Orchestra. The programme features excerpts from Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto in D minor and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme for cello.

Entry to all concerts is free (reservations on www.emanacje.pl). (Barbara Skowrońska)
