Film Harvest

“Films that are sophisticated and expressive, with an aromatic bouquet, of excellent vintages, lightly chilled in air-conditioned rooms, and all at an attractive price,” promise the organisers of this year’s 10th Summer Cinema Harvest put together once again by Pod Baranami Cinema (1 July – 1 September). During the nine weeks, we will see hits including Spectre, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Sicario. There will also be films from outside the mainstream (A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Intruders) and classic and cult films including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Amadeus and Babette’s Feast. Polish cinematography is represented by the thriller Demon, the comedy These Daughters of Mine and the moving The High Frontier. There will also be films that are eccentric (Lobster), scandalous (Love) and sublime (Youth). There will be over 100 screenings in total plus plenty of accompanying events including a poster fair, promotional events and competitions with prizes.

The 10th Summer Cinema Harvest means plenty of work and sleepless nights in August. Kino Pod Baranami is preparing the latest events: the key to this year’s festival is the motif “world”. At the start of August, we’ll learn what’s hidden in Our Inner World (29 July – 4 August). We’ll admire The Great Beauty on the terrace of the Roman apartment of Jep Gambardella and listen to A Tale of Love and Darkness from the dreamy Fani. The following week we’ll learn about how Strange Is The World (5-11 August), especially that beyond our senses. Close encounters of the third kind await with a medium (Body/Ciało) and a dybbuk (Demon). In World According to Women (12-18 August), we’ll see that it’s possible to remain a lady whatever the circumstances (The Lady In The Van). World of Laughter and Tears (19-25 August) reveals What We Do In The Shadows, and it reminds us that Life Must Go On. During the last week of the summer holidays, we will Get To Know the Real World (26 August – 1 September): vicious show business (Amy), cut-throat finance (The Big Short) and Church scandals (Spotlight).
