Choosing Bookshops of 2019

29 October 2019

Bookshop Vote

They started to disappear from urban landscapes as the market became dominated by large chains offering a seemingly wide choice and promising amazing deals. Fortunately, they have been making a comeback in recent years as readers once again appreciate their individual personalities, carefully selected ranges, customer care and role in shaping current trends. Indie bookshops aren’t just places to buy books – they host meetings with authors, lectures, discussions and book clubs (often accompanied by fine coffee). Choosing Bookshops of 2019 forms a part of the project supporting and promoting independent stores in Kraków. The survey runs over a month, starting on 4 November. Cracovians can cast their votes online or in person at various places throughout the city: in bookshops, clubs, museums and cultural centres and institutions. Awards will be given to three best-rated bookshops and one second-hand bookshop. Results will be announced on 13 December, coinciding with nationwide celebrations of Booksellers’ Day. (Anna Mazur)
