March Beginnings

28 February 2018

This year, the traditional opening of the season of Kraków’s most important events coincides with the Holy Week and the Misteria Paschalia Festival, falling in late March just after the start of spring. The festival programme, prepared together with John Butt – artistic director of Dunedin Consort from Edinburgh – features compositions from Poland and the UK, chamber recitals and grand vocal performances and oratorios.

But cultural spring makes itself known even earlier: on 12 March, the concert by the eminent violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter – favourite instrumentalist of Krzysztof Penderecki (celebrating his 85th birthday this year!) – kicks off this year’s ICE Classic cycle. The exhibition celebrating graphic novels at the Main Building of the National Museum in Krakow, also opening in March, forms a part of events continuing in the coming months, including the Kraków Comic Book Festival. The Cracovian programme of events commemorating the centenary of Poland’s independence starts with the exhibition Beautiful Independence, presenting the female aspects of the wars and the struggle for statehood at the Home Army Museum. And of course there will be more events celebrating this momentous anniversary throughout the year…

Spring is filled with culture!
