So Many Dates

1 April 2016

Mariah Carey at Tauron Arena Kraków, Mariza at ICE Kraków, the KRAKERS gallery weekend, International Jazz Day and a cycle of events as part of the World Book Day – who said April is dull? Even though for many years it has been regarded as a prelude to the busiest part of the season, all of a sudden our April calendars are marked with more and more dates and important events. This time, make sure you take a trip to the Kraków Saltworks Museum Wieliczka for the exhibition of works by Władysław Skoczylas, whose distinctive prints hardly need introduction, and don’t miss the concert by the acclaimed percussionist Antonio Sánchez, best known for his award-winning soundtrack to “Birdman”. The festival “Young and Old” features a concert dedicated to the memory of the acclaimed Polish saxophonist Janusz Muniak, who passed away earlier this year. When we launched “Karnet” twenty years ago (can you believe it?!), Janusz frequently visited our office – with his inseparable pipe – to tell us about his forthcoming concerts and stop off for a chat. And that’s how we’ll remember him. April culminates with the opening of the Off Camera festival, launching us into the wealth of cinematic events in May. It will be a special treat for all fans of independent – and mainstream – cinema.

  • Books and Roses. Springtime means the blossoming of Kraków’s literary programme: on 23 April, we are celebrating the UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day.
  • Fasten Your Seatbelts. A fresh look, innovation, the ability to tackle difficult, at times controversial subjects… Fasten your seatbelts – we’re going on a cinematic ride! The 9th Netia Off Camera International Festival of Independent Cinema once again brings plenty of innovation and surprises.
  • Jazz Is Like a Bird. The 22nd Young and Old, or Jazz in Kraków Festival is all about breaking down barriers and encouraging artistic freedom.
  • Discovering Płaszów. Three branches of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków – Pomorska Street, the Eagle Pharmacy and the Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory – recall the days of the Second World War. Every year, the museum hosts events commemorating the days of the Nazi occupation in Kraków under the banner of Remember With Us. Celebrationof Kraków’s Galleries.
  • Ave Mariah! Mariah Carey’s vocal range spanning five octaves and acclaimed songwriting talent make her an archetypal contemporary pop artist. On 11 April, she comes to Tauron Arena Kraków to perform her timeless hits including “Hero”, “Fantasy”, “Always Be My Baby” and “We Belong Together”.
