Aleksandra Młynarczyk-Gemza explores, accentuates, and brings together unobtrusive details, flashes of perception, instantaneous blows of reality. It extracts to daylight and consolidates what “was rejected by the builders”, creating from the collected waste a cornerstone of extraordinary beauty. All these peculiar features and scenes captured from everyday life she keeps on a light-sensitive cliché and perpetuates in spite of their sometimes touching ugliness. With her gaze, she transforms the unforgettable “cave of reality” in order to extract hidden beauty and poetry from it with extraordinary mastery. By operating skillfully with lighting, she gives it even a painting dimension and character. Thanks to this, she proves that “beauty without the ugliness transformed by its excess simply does not exist”. She acquires a special added value, because like a whispering witch, it somehow curses the domestic spirits and arranges a “holy conversation” (santa conversazione) between them, although in her photographs they “communicate” with each other primarily objects, not Madonna and the saints around her. She turns the most ordinary photographs into a kind of “magazine of memories with eternally open doors”, into semi-magical objects hiding our desires and dreams.
