In 2020 we have been faced with myriad new challenges, and social istancing means that much of our lives has been limited to the rivate sphere. In response, the theme of this year’s A Thing for Art is HOME.

Since we have been spending most of our time at home in recent months, we have been faced with the need to rearrange our living space and even adapt what we wear for working from home. This is the leading theme of this year’s A Thing for Art. Design in Kraków – a municipal project bringing together initiatives proposed by artists, designers, foundations, associations and galleries. The 2020 programme is held online and in person; face-to-face events may still be moved into the online sphere depending on how the pandemic situation develops.

The Kogel Mogel Fair with its extensive programme of accompanying events and workshops for kids and adults and the Open House Festival, hosting discussions on the meaning of “home” in private apartments, studios and social initiative venues, are prepared for both options. The Lipowa 3 Glass and Ceramics Centre hosts glassmaking workshops for children and adults. RH Plus – Izba Gospodarcza hosts a Facebook meeting with Ryszard Warnke – head chef at Baroque food & style specialising in slow food. Kids design gardens perfect for the quarantine at the online architectural workshops hosted by Akademia Miarologii, while the individual Cracovian embroidery lessons follow designs published on the website of the Cracovian Costume Studio at the Friends of Bronowice Society.

The festival also features Kraków Meetings with Design (19-22 November) – the latest instalment of the annual event organised by Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design including special guests and a discussion about Polish fashion with Ewa Kowalewska-Kondrat and Michał Zaczyński, streamed online.
