Krzysztof Penderecki was born on 23 November 1933. On 27 and 28 November, the Kraków Philharmonic marks the event for the first time since the Maestro’s passing earlier this year. The musicians perform his diploma composition Epitaphium Artur Malawski In Memoriam, Symphony No. 6 “Chinese Songs”, the choral work O gloriosa Virginum, Agnus Dei composed in response to the passing of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, and the dramatic lament Stabat Mater. We will also hear the world premiere of Rafał Janiak’s Postscriptum 8’:37” = 8(.)6… dedicated to Penderecki’s memory. The music is performed by Jarosław Bręk (baritone) and the Kraków Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra under the baton of Antoni Wit, former pupil of Maestro Penderecki. (wz)
