Head to the Hills

In December, Kraków celebrates mountains! Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, this year’s 18th Kraków Mountain Film Festival is held online.

On 12 and 13 December, the PLAY KRAKÓW platform presents meetings with acclaimed mountaineers. Guests from abroad include rock climber Alex Megos from Germany, boulderer and free climber Barbara Zangerl from Austria and Edu Marín from Spain.

Mountains are about more than a physical challenge – they also have their very own culture. Between 5 and 31 December, PLAY KRAKÓW presents many cinematic jewels, including K2. The Impossible Descent showcasing Andrzej Bargiel’s extraordinary skiing achievement, Eliza Kubarska’s The Wall of Shadows documenting a Sherpa family breaking the taboo of leading an expedition to a holy mountain, and the story of Polish students who risked it all to claim the first descent of the world’s deepest canyon 40 years ago in Godspeed, Los Polacos! Featured films compete for prizes in Polish and international competitions.

Thus spake Zarathustra, “He who climbs upon the highest mountains laughs at all tragedies, real or imaginary.” Let’s go on a (virtual) mountaineering adventure!
