Is it spring already? It is: the 7th Kraków Cello Spring (5-8 March)! This year’s concerts focus in turn on Cello in Three Versions (solo and in a duet and trio), works by Ludwig van Beethoven (commemorating the 250th anniversary of his birth!) and sounds of South America (including Heitor Villa-Lobos Fantasia concertante for cello orchestra). The finale, resounding with Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for two cellos and Mikołaj Górecki’s Elegy for cello and string quintet, is testament of the ceaseless popularity of this instrument. Its melodious sound and velvet timbre are presented during springtime concerts by lecturers and students at the Academy of Music in Kraków, as well as special guests including Alexander Gebert and Lars Hoefs.
