Outside the Box

Simon Toulson-Clarke has been dabbling with the music industry since he was 13 years old. In the late 1970s, together with Julian Close he founded the group Harlequins, later renamed Red Box. The British musicians were blending synthpop with ethno rhythms before the term “world music” became widespread. Released in 1986, their debut album The Circle & the Square featured the hits Lean on Me and For America. Following the release of their second, less “tribal” album Motive the band took a break of 20 years. They made a successful comeback in 2010, and tracks The Sign and Hurricane from their album Plenty topped the charts of Poland’s Radio Three, On 29 March, they come to the Kraków Variété Theatre to present their classic repertoire alongside material from their latest album Chase the Setting Sun. (Bartosz Suchecki, “Karnet”)
