Who’s for an Oscar?
This year, the most important film awards are handed out in the late evening of 9 February. To make the wait pass more quickly, Agrafka Cinema and Kika Cinema and Café host an Oscar Weekend (7-9 February). We will see a pre-premiere screening of Les Misérables – a shocking feature debut by Ladj Ly set in the immigrant community in the Parisian suburb of Montfermeil where he grew up and which is the setting of Victor Hugo’s original novel. We will also see other productions nominated for Best International Feature Film: Parasite, Honeyland, Pain and Glory and Poland’s candidate Corpus Christi. The programme also includes short films and animations. Throughout the month, both cinemas will be showing Sam Mendes’ 1917 – an epic war drama shot using long takes to have the film appear as one continuous shot – and Little Women, Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the acclaimed novel.
