Fire in Winter
We listened to rustling leaves, lazed in the meadow in the sunshine, took brisk dips in a cool river, spent warm summer evenings with friends… But memories are one thing – now it’s time to dance! If you can’t believe that summer is long gone (and a long way ahead), and a single new year’s eve party is just not enough, Pannonica comes to the rescue. On 11 January, the festival held in the village of Barcice near Stary Sącz makes a visit to Kraków. We celebrate the Eastern Orthodox new year with Balkan and Ukrainian rhythms at Forty Kleparz. And they will keep us hot: we will hear Luiku’s Gypsy-Ukrainian or Trans-Carpathian dance rhythms, the Kuwaiti DJ Fahadzinski blending Balkan, Irish and Indian music with transnational R&B and hip-hop, and from Poland the Sokół Orchestra awarded at the trumpet festival in Guča in Serbia and the Iglika Balkan Song and Dance Ensemble from Kraków. Who knows, maybe the wild dancing will keep us going until the summer! (Bartosz Suchecki, ”Karnet”)
