Hypodermic Espresso

Sounds can stimulate or calm, soothe or irritate, some buzz in our heads while others… get under the skin. The Cracovian multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and lyricist Mariusz Łuniewski focuses on just such intense, severe, cold and piercing sounds. In his project undertheskin, he reaches for the aesthetic of the 1980s when traditional instruments went out of fashion in favour of drum machines and synths. He is thrifty with his instruments, balancing them out with powerful emotions. The philosophy has earned him many fans, and his albums undertheskin and NEGATIVE have been rated highly on Bandcamp. We will hear a concert version performed by three musicians at ArtCafe Barakah on 24 January. (Bartosz Suchecki, ”Karnet”)
