The Cracovian bookbinder Robert Jahoda (1862-1947) was a true master and Poland’s leading expert in his craft and in conservation of early manuscripts and prints. He ran a workshop at Bracka Street for around sixty years, and his clients included academics, scholars of Kraków’s history, bibliophiles… His shop was popular with collectors of valuable books in Poland and abroad: aristocrats, industrialists, politicians and even royalty. His skills and expertise were sought by secular and religious institutions. The Museum of Krakow exhibition In Praise of Books. Robert Jahoda – Craftsman and Artist at the Hipolitów House (from 21 November) tells the story of the private and professional life of this eminent Cracovian and of his city and the people he worked with and shared his love of books with. (Dorota Dziunikowska, “Karnet” monthly)
