Distant Cousin
His grandparents emigrated from Poland to America before the First World War. Randy Brecker was born in 1945 in Philadelphia suburbs, where he grew up absorbing music traditions built by John Coltrane. He studied in Indiana and New York and performed abroad, where he met artists such as Tomasz Stańko and Włodek Pawlik; he was joined by the latter on the recording of the Grammy Award-winning album Night in Calisia. Brecker was one of the original members of Blood, Sweat & Tears, he transformed fusion music with his brother Michael, and performed alongside musical titans such as Brown, Joplin, Wonder, Simon and Springsteen. The trumpeter brings fragments of this incredible world to the concert hall of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Music School on 8 December, where he is joined by the AMC Trio from Slovakia.
