Long autumn evening are the ideal time to catch up on films, so head to Pod Baranami Cinema for the German Cinema Week 2019 (22-28 November)! Held for over twenty years, the annual review of the latest releases from our western neighbours is the perfect opportunity to watch films by established artists and acclaimed debutants – there’s a tasty morsel for everyone! The programme features the winner of this year’s Transatlantyk Festival System Crasher, telling the story of how the care system failed the emotional needs of nine-year-old Benni (played by the talented Helena Zengel). Little Germans explores the influence of upbringing on political views, making an unsettling connection to our own “here and now”. We will also see productions looking at the near and distant past of the land on the Rheine, including Wackersdorf and Lotte am Bauhaus. If you’re after something more lighthearted, don’t miss the comedy The Goldfish and the biopic of the popular comedian Hape Kerkeling All About Me.
