Exposed
When she started working on her album Disarm, she told herself: “If you want to expose yourself, just do it.” She didn’t have a clear plan yet, but she knew that she had to stay true to herself and that she was ready for setbacks. When the task was complete, Mary Komasa described the period as a time of searching for beauty and hope in a disintegrating world – and she realised how important it was for her to be on stage while she was still recording.
Komasa’s compositions are closely intertwined with visual arts. The musician herself stresses that she thinks in images, and she shares this tendency with her family: her father Wiesław is an actor, brother Jan a director and husband Antoni Łazarkiewicz a film music composer. She explores issues faced by her generation, including social topics such as struggles for equality and political problems such as Brexit. Although she doesn’t sing in Polish (she sees it as “an intimacy she keeps for her nearest and dearest”), she believes that her songs express emotions beyond language. On 13 October, Komasa presents her latest material during a performance at ICE Kraków, where she is accompanied by the AUKSO – Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy. (Bartosz Suchecki, ”Karnet”)
