A vast hall filled with the scent of paper and printers’ dye, with stacks of novels, reportages, collections of stories and volumes of poetry on publishers’ tables… Is there anything more beautiful?

Between 24 and 27 October, during the 23rd International Book Fair in Kraków, the EXPO Kraków Conference Centre turns into a giant bookshop and venue for meetings with acclaimed authors and industry discussions. Marc Elsberg, Brandon Mull, Jonathan Carroll, Jacek Dukaj, Marek Krajewski, Szczepan Twardoch and Adam Zagajewski are just some of the guests attending this year’s events. We will also meet a real-life cosmonaut Mirosław Hermaszewski, attending as part of events marking the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing.

The cycle of events titled German Stories is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the culture of our Western neighbours. The special guests of this year’s fair present literature from Germany’s finest publishing houses. Goethe-Institut Krakau has prepared an exhibition dedicated to Michael Ende, a lecture by Dr. Thomas Becker on libraries of the future and literary tours of Kraków. We will also find the latest releases: Jonathan Carroll, Katarzyna Bonda and Goran Vojnović meet readers during launches of their new books. And there’s plenty for children and young adults, including Anita Głowińska’s brand-new stories, Katherine Marsh’s Nowhere Boy and Reeli Reinaus’ How My Dad Got a New Wife. The Comic Book Salon presents authors of graphic novels, with Jérémie Royer, Arne Jysch, Guilherme Petreca, Reed Tucker, Tomasz Kontny and Marek Turek talking about their work as writers and artists.
