The Italian photographer Maurizio Buscarino spent many years documenting the most important phenomena of contemporary theatre all over the globe. His vast archive of around twelve thousand photos includes records of rehearsals and performances by Cricot 2 Theatre. The exhibition Maurizio Buscarino. “Comedians!” Cricot 2 Theatre in Photos at Cricoteka presents 198 previously unpublished images. Their author was one of the few photographers allowed to view the troupe at work by its leader Tadeusz Kantor. The Italian artist first encountered the director’s work in 1978, and the following year he was invited to document rehearsals for Wielopole, Wielopole in Florence. Since then, Buscarino and his camera accompanied Cricot 2 at all their productions. His work reached far beyond simply understanding Kantor’s vision; his deep sensitivity of emotions on stage means his images are far more than simply documents. All prints were prepared especially for the exhibition by the author himself at his studio in Poscante near Bergamo. (dd)
