Dancing into Space

She has tried her hand at a huge range of pursuits: she studied cinematography and recreation management, played in a rock band and even served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her family’s financial limitations meant she had to choose between dancing and violin lessons at an early age, but it certainly looks like Lindsey Stirling made the right choice. She first enchanted viewers by posting her music on her YouTube channel, and her career took off after she reached the quarter-finals of America’s Got Talent. She doesn’t limit herself to a single music genre and skilfully intertwines classical music with EDM, hip-hop and dubstep. Her fame has even reached space: she has an asteroid named after her! But her career path hasn’t always been smooth. Her song Shatter Me documents her struggle to overcome anorexia. Her album Artemis was inspired by the Greek goddess of the hunt and the moon. “There have been times in my life where I have felt completely overcome by the ‘shadow’ of grief, or depression. But the moon has taught me a powerful lesson. Just because she gets covered in shadow doesn’t mean she isn’t still there… and that she won’t fight back to reclaim her full light,” she said in an interview. The American artist performs at Tauron Arena Kraków on 18 September(Bartosz Suchecki, ”Karnet”)
