Direction? France!
Between 3 and 9 June, Pod Baranami Cinema hoists the French tricolour and sings the Marseillaise! The 10th French Cinema Review reveals the most fascinating aspects of today’s France, takes us on trips to the past and lets us take a break from our own daily reality. The historical part of our journey to the land of Balzac and Napoleon comes with the film La douleur (dir. Emmanuel Finkiel), revealing the brutal reality of occupied France. Agnès Varda (1928-2019) builds a bridge between the past and the present with her latest and, sadly, last film Varda by Agnes. Robert Guédiguian’s La Villa explores serious topics in a lighthearted and honest way, followed by the audience favourite Sink or Swim directed by Gilles Lellouche featuring a stellar cast. The cinema keeps young film fans happy with the charming animation Ernest and Celestine’s Winter. Vive la France!
