“My songbook will contain a collection of songs for one voice with piano accompaniment. I have tried to select poems by our finest poets,” declared Stanisław Moniuszko in his Home Songbook. His melodies soon found their way to Poland’s cities and villages, sung by everyone regardless of age or background. On 18 May and 15 June, artists of the Kraków Opera recall the religious aspects of the composer’s works at the Pauline Church. During the concert Lend Us Your Ear, Lord: Songs by Stanisław Moniuszko, held as part of the Songs – Theatre of Words cycle, we will hear Katarzyna Oleś-Blacha, Daria Proszek, Monika Korbyalska, Robert Gierlach and Jacek Ozimkowski. The event forms a part of the celebrations of the Year of Moniuszko commemorating the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. (Anna Mazur)
