Never Say Goodbye

Oh, what a sendoff! Or so we thought. Naming their tour The Long Goodbye was perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek, and Deep Purple pay us a second visit in eighteen months. We’re certainly not complaining: after all they are pioneers of British hard rock and representatives of the “unholy trinity” (alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath). They are admired by hordes of fans and fellow musicians; when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame stalled adding the band to their ranks for many years, they gained support from stars such as Gene Simmons, Slash and Lars Ulrich until “the globe’s loudest band” was finally listed in 2016. The core of the group are authors of great hits from the early 1970s: percussionist Ian Paice, bassist Roger Glover and vocalist Ian Gillan. And although they have slowed down, they can’t seem to stop. “It becomes obvious that you cannot tour the same way you did when you were 21. But never say never,” says Paice. On 3 December, we head to Tauron Arena Kraków for a loud journey through the band’s catalogue, featuring tracks from their golden era (Machine Head!), Now What?! and Infinite. (Bartosz Suchecki, ƒ“Karnet”)
