On 1 March 2019, the cultural map of Kraków gained a new institution: the Museum of Nowa Huta, the latest branch of the Museum of Krakow located in the historical building of the former Światowid cinema, has been founded following a merger between the Museum of Communist Poland with the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków (gaining a new, shorter name from the start of March 2019). Of course such formal issues are of little concern to visitors, but the new exhibitions certainly are. They include existing presentations of the Museum of Communist Poland (including Nuclear Threat. Shelters in Nowa Huta welcoming visitors into the underground of the former cinema) and new temporary exhibitions.
And for something completely different, visitors can take tours (individual or with a guide) of the bunker at the Mechanical School Complex No. 3 at 37 Szkolne Estate as part of the exhibition Nowa Huta Underground. State of Emergency, explaining the extremely powerful human instinct to seek shelter from danger. It is the first stage of the tourist trail of the Nowa Huta bunkers, including four Cold War shelters from the 1950s.
