The annual art gallery weekend organised by the East of Art Foundation has had a huge transformation this year, becoming the Cracow Art Week KRAKERS. The organisers, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first ever moon landing in July this year and by the rapid development of technologies during the last half-century, have prepared a series of events centred around new media and the growing use of AI in art. “We are interested in what artists think about the future: which theories they believe in, how they see future progress, what futuristic visions or utopias, expressing humankind’s longing for a better world, inspire them. (...) Taking a cosmic perspective surely opens the field of interpretation for artists and curators,” promise the organisers.
There will be vernissages and more than 70 (!) exhibitions, curated tours, workshops, lectures, discussion panels and screenings of science fiction films introduced by experts. Throughout the week there is also an online auction of artworks displayed by participating galleries. If you need advice on where to find events, held throughout the city, head to the information centre at the Krzysztofory Palace. (Dorota Dziunikowska, “Karnet” monthly)
