Shape-Shifter

As soon as he made his debut on record charts, he made a bold statement that we’ll never keep up with him. Years later he said, “You think you can get away with anything when you're young” – in the end, he continued getting away with anything for close to five decades. Although time may have changed him, he also affected how the times changed: he brought the topic of sexual orientation into the open, added elements of theatre to the world of rock and of course introduced earthlings to Spiders from Mars. In musical terms, he travelled from station to station, visiting genres as distinct as soul, jazz, ambient and industrial, taking on the atmosphere of each before moving on. Once he realised he was nearing his end, he admitted he can’t give everything away. However, his legacy will easily captivate the imaginations of generations to come. On 9 March, Gypsy and the Acid Queen and guests go on an interstellar trip in the footsteps of David Bowie at Alchemia. The musician will use the funds raised at the gig towards producing his second album. (Bartosz Suchecki, “Karnet”)
