Some send anonymous love notes, some buy roses, others head out for a romantic film, dinner or walk, but the Kraków Philharmonic celebrates Valentine’s Day with the tuba. On 15 and 16 February, we will hear Constantin Hartwig, winner of the German Music Competition in Bonn and the Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments in Düsseldorf. He performs Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Concerto for tuba – the absolute classic for the instrument. Recalling last year’s centenary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein, we will also hear his Symphony No. 2 “The Age of Anxiety”. The concert closes with George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, described by the composer himself as “the musical kaleidoscope of America”. The solo piano parts in the latter two compositions are performer by Karol Radziwonowicz. One thing is for sure: the concert will make you fall
