Electroacoustics
Cut and paste? What could be simpler? Well, in some cases you have to cut with surgical precision and paste with sensitivity. For example… in music. Luckily for us, the Wrocław duo Skalpel have made it into an artform. At the turn of the millennium, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło selected excerpts from jazz recordings of Krzysztof Komeda, Tomasz Stańko and the Novi Singers ensemble to create their very own sound collages. By playing around with electronics, they gave the mosaic such a real and distinctive feel that the Poznań-based composer Patryk Piłasiewicz asked them to perform their tracks in versions for “live” instruments. On 24 March, Studio presents the programme Skalpel Big Band, revealing a synthesis of the duo’s original electronic sounds and their acoustic adaptations performed by a band of seventeen musicians.
