Tender Hockey Player
He wanted to emulate Gary Lupul and Patrik Sundström, and he saw it as a good omen that his name resembled that of Jiří Bubla. In the end, the boy from Burnaby, Canada didn’t grow up to become a hockey player, but he rose to fame his childhood idols could only dream of. It just so happened that Michael Bublé had another dream: as a teenager, he slept with a copy of the Bible under his pillow, praying to become a jazz singer. His family noted his incredible vocal talent, and his grandfather supported his ambitions by paying for his singing lessons and believing that Michael will become a star. Their intuition proved right: the Canadian singer’s warm singing voice, perfect for elegant covers of pop and jazz standards and Christmas carols, has captivated audiences the world over. Recent years brought trouble to Bublé’s personal life; when his son Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer, the singer cancelled a tour and considered abandoning his career altogether. Fortunately for the family (and Bublé’s fans!), the treatment was successful, and Michael recorded a new album titled Love and resumed touring. He will be making a welcome return to Poland: on 20 September, he appears at Tauron Arena Kraków after a five-year break. (Bartosz Suchecki, ”Karnet”)
